Aurora Novus Profiles The SanDisk Extreme Team

Late in 2009, Brian Pridgeon, Worldwide Marketing Director at SanDisk, wanted to profile select photographers around the world, who were members of the SanDisk Extreme Team.   The object was to exhibit their work and to illustrate why they trust the capacity, durability and reliability of SanDisk cards. Each Extreme Team member was interviewed, and some were also shot as they worked, to create 2-3 minute videos that are running on SanDisk’s worldwide web sites and their Facebook page. Aurora Novus was able to use its international list of storytellers and editors to create compelling, inspiring and informative pieces, in some cases in the subjects native language(French, German and Portuguese), that illustrated SanDisk’s capabilities and highlighted their Extreme Team member’s work and passions.

Aurora Novus Features the Valles Caldera National Preserve

In the summer of 2010 Amy Marquis and Scott Kirkwood from National Parks Magazine came to Aurora Novus to build a multimedia piece that included an editorial shoot, and a video for their website which would accompany an article in the magazine featuring the Valles Caldera National Preserve; a dormant super-volcano that many are advocating to become a recognized National Park.  National Parks Magazine wanted to showcase the Valles Caldera National Preserve by giving an introduction to the land and its history, discussing why it is worthy of becoming a National Park and to present what is currently happening in Congress to this end.  Aurora Novus sent Blake Gordon to the Valles Caldera to shoot still and video and to gather audio interviews with scientists and researchers at the National Preserve.  Aurora Novus was able to create a powerful piece that not only highlighted the long, interesting history of the Valles Caldera but also illustrated the importance of its current fight for National Parks Status.

Aurora Novus Produces Piece for Sierra Nevada College

In September of 2009, Aurora Novus was tasked by Sierra Nevada College with creating an “all in one solution” including print, signage at ski resorts, and a spot for regional TV as well as a multimedia presentation that would profile both the high level of academic opportunity and also the unique geographic location and recreational opportunities afforded to students in the Lake Tahoe Basin.

Novus worked with both existing stock photography supplied by the college and the Aurora Photos archive and commissioned Aurora Select photorapher Corey Rich to spend a day capturing the atmosphere of campus life and the student environment.

“This incredible group of professionals produced a tremendous multimedia spot for Sierra Nevada College.  The photography, storytelling and editing by the team at Aurora Novus made for one powerful message we hope drives thousands of inquiries and hundreds of new students for the fall of 2010!”

Tim Cohee, Chair of the Marketing, Brand and Vision Committee at Sierra Nevada College

Corey Rich for Road Runner Sports

coreyrichroadrunnersports09

Aurora photographer Corey Rich conducted a photo shoot this past October for Road Runner Sports’ latest sportswear catalog, with a focus on running and the running lifestyle. The still images and video content was shot during a four day assignment in Vail, Colorado and San Diego, California. “Shooting the video and stills with the same camera allowed me to piggyback the productions”, says Corey. This allowed him to use the same locations, talent, and crew for both productions without the needs to add extra shoot days. The result? A video that perfectly compliments the print component. When asked about the shoot, Corey said “This style of production represents the future of visual storytelling. The new technology, coupled with a new way of approaching the subject, allows me to work in an environment where the only limit is my own imagination.” All content was captured using Nikon DSLR cameras- the stills on the Nikon D3 and video on the Nikon D90. Adrian Bailey Documentary Winner at Film Festival

swamp-troop-titleaurora_baboon_-001

Aurora photographer Adrian Bailey has received awards for Best Newcomer and Best Sound at the Jackson Hole Wildlife Film Festival for his documentary film, Swamp Troop. The annual festival allows television and film industry professionals from around the world to network with their peers and engage in lively discussions, seminars, and forums, all devoted to the world of natural history filmmaking.

Adrian’s documentary follows the life of Boro, the alpha male of a large Chacma Baboon troop residing in Botswana’s Okavango Delta, a place that supports the highest density of the species in Africa. Shot entirely on foot by Adrian, and his wife and partner Robyn Keene-Young, the film gives viewers a first-hand look at the complex social relations within the baboon troop, as well as all the trials that go along with being a baboon in a hostile, unforgiving environment. The one-hour TV documentary about a troop of baboons in Botswana’s Okavango Delta, was produced for the National Geographic Channel, and will be titled Swamp of the Baboons in the US.

When asked what this project means to him, Adrian said, “It’s always a great privilege to spend time working in Botswana’s wilderness areas, but to do so on foot, and at the same time learning an entirely new means of creative expression, made the experience all the more meaningful.” On winning these awards, Adrian reflects, “It was a great honor to be nominated for the awards in the first place, but truly a surprise to win both awards, especially against the serious, big budget competition in the Sound category (Disneynature / BBC’s Earth and Giant Screen Production’s Wild Ocean).” The film will premiere on the National Geographic Channel in late 2009.
